A Doula is an ancient  Greek word meaning women's servant.  In modern-day, a doula is a trained birth professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and spiritual support to momma before, during, and after childbirth, in the hospital or during a home birth. A doula helps momma and her partner achieve the healthiest, most satisfying birth experience possible. Azura Doula Service provides evidence-based forms of non-medical pain control during labor, emotional and educational support during pregnancy and the childbirth process. A Doula can decrease the need for a c-section by 39%, shorten labor by an average of 41 minutes, and decrease the need for pain medication.  A doula is part of your birth team that helps  you keep your  birth plan on track by supporting momma and her partner during labor.  A doula works with the doctors, midwives, and nursing staff as momma's advocate.  Your doula is there for you during pregnancy, during labor, and helps you through postpartum healing by emotionally, spirtualy and physically supporting momma.  She helps you sleep when you need it the most.  Ask us about using a TENS unit during labor!!

While having a doula still may be an out-of-pocket expense, some insurance companies are starting to see the benefit of a doula in the delivery room and are reimbursing for some or all of the doula’s fees depending on your plan. Call your insurance company's benefits department to get details and a pre-authorization, or we can help contact them for you, we speak coding! We  will give you the codes the insurance company needs to see how much coverage you have. Typically you will have to pay your doula fees up front. We will give you a superbill with a detailed receipt. You will submit a claim for reimbursement and get reinbursed directly.   If denied, presenting evidence-based studies from An agency like The Cochrane Review that shows “ Continuous Support for Women During Childbirth, showed a very high number of positive birth outcomes when a doula was present,  having a doula as a member of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 52.9%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40%, and requests for an epidural drop by 60%.”   Proving to the insurance company with these  Evidence-Based studies that show the benefit can be enough to make insurance companies change their mind about paying for doula costs..  This is no guarantee that they will pay, but we at Azura Doula Service are committed to helping you get reimbursed.
